Mangiarotti believed that each material should be respected and used honestly, and Castore expresses that philosophy with unusual clarity. The glass top rests on a heavy marble base, while a removable marble bowl above the glass gives the impression that the tabletop is held in place by a single sculptural element. Rounded edges on both the pillar and bowl soften the strength of the marble and create a subtle reflection through the glass surface.
